being a military family, we have the fortunate opportunity to make friends everywhere we go…and on the contrary, the unfortunate realization that we will ultimately move away. i’ve been reminded of many of my san diego friends over the last week as i’ve been archiving files on my overloaded hard drives–and preparing friends and family galleries for them to retrieve photos taken over the last year. these are some of my recent faves of our good friends joel and stephanie. young, beautiful and with hearts of gold, there’s nothing not to love about this family. these were taken when steph was pregnant with her second daughter, haven, and at her newborn session.

unbridled joy, discovery, laughter and hugs. there’s plenty of those and more in this incredible family. what a genuine pleasure it was getting a glimpse into their world. this was a surprise shoot for their dad. i hope he enjoys his gift!

mini shoot (part 1)

after being rained out on friday, two of my mini-session families braved the weather to shoot on saturday afternoon. by then, the weather (and light) was beautiful! i couldn’t have asked for better models. although they were both under 2, they loved my camera…and it loved them back. see the rest of my “mini” families next weekend! here’s a sneak peek at warner and chloe:

lifeography will be participating in the navy officer spouse club’s business fair this wednesday at the green lane community center in middletown from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. the event is free and open to the public. so, get some of your holiday shopping done early with the many exhibitors…and enter to win a complimentary baby/child session and gift print package (valued at $280) with the purchase of a $2 raffle ticket. all proceeds benefit local charities that support military families.

i’ll have an extensive assortment of print displays including canvases, giveaways and will be unveiling some fabulous new product offerings you won’t want to miss (hint: some are shiny and will make wonderful holiday gifts)! if that’s not enough, the first person who mentions this blog post at the event wins a prize.

one of my favorite images was recently published in JPG magazine’s “theme outtakes: family” publication online. it didn’t make it to final 20 in the printed magazine, but i’ll take what i can get. more than 3,000 photographers submit to each issue…and even being included among the 50 outtakes is an honor!

when mia arrived in her fabulous knit dress and stylish boots…with a smile to match, i was in heaven. i had a wonderful time shooting her yesterday. with all of the wonderful fields, flowers, paths, leaves and water to explore, i think she had a great time too! thank you k. for allowing me to photograph your daughter. she is beautiful inside and out!

fall mini session Q&A!

lifeography’s fall mini-sessions are almost full! there are a few slots remaining, so confirm yours now to ensure availability. mini sessions offer a significant discount off a full session pricing and include a mini print package. below are a few questions some of you have asked — and answers:

Q: does my baby/child have to wear a costume?
A: absolutely not! you may dress your child however you like. you may bring a costume as well and we can take a few shots in it as well if there is time.

Q: my baby can’t sit up very well, will this be a problem?
A: no! we have props/chairs to accommodate babies and children of all ages. however, if you have a very young infant, please contact me first to discuss options.

Q: where will the shoot take place?
A: since we’ll be shooting outdoors in the middle of the day, we’ll be “following the light” or the shade, actually! we will meet in downtown newport. exact location details will be sent to participants prior to the shoot, but I expect we’ll be starting near the brick alley pub on thames st.

Q: what happens if it rains?
A: i will select a backup date (tentatively Aug. 26) to reschedule–or, work to arrange shoots on an individual basis. if we are unable to reschedule, participants will receive a full refund of their session fee/deposit. if the weather is overcast– GREAT! that provides perfect light for an outdoor shoot and we will continue as planned.

lifeography is proud to announce our ONE-day limited edition fall mini session event in beautiful downtown Newport on Friday, Oct. 19. Bring your costumed critters, pumpkins and princesses to a 20-minute on-location photo session for a taste of lifeography’s custom portrait experience. Only eight slots are available, so reserve your session now to guarantee availability.investment: $75 includes session fee and mini-print package featuring one 8×10 art print, two 5X7s and 8 wallets (a $150 print value) with the option to purchase additional prints at 30% off retail value.

location: Downtown Newport (exact location TBD)

time: Sessions will be held every 30 minutes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

mini session details: Limitations: Due to time constraints of a mini-session, only one or two siblings may be photographed in each time slot. For three or more children, please book two consecutive mini-sessions, or consider one of lifeography’s custom portrait sessions.

deposit: $75 session fee is due at time of booking and is nonrefundable. Session fee includes photo session and package listed above but does not include 7% RI sales tax on prints. Sales tax is due at time of ordering.

gallery: 5 to 8 images from your session will be handcrafted in our digital darkroom and presented in a password-protected online image gallery (live for two weeks). You may choose multiple poses when selecting your package. You may also order additional prints at 30% off standard a la carte prices. For your convenience, lifeography accepts cash, check and credit cards. Payment is due in full at time of order.

something about this place is so serene. we love it here. today, the three of us went on a pre-dinner outing to blithewold, a mansion/estate about 10 minutes north in bristol. can’t wait to do a shoot here.
