Fair Winds & Following Seas | Navy Family Portraits

As a military family, we endure a fair share of hellos and goodbyes. Although we expect them and understand them more now, they are never easy. As I am closing the chapter on my photography business for 2010 during my maternity leave, my family is also saddened to close a chapter on times spent with the Williams family as they are relocated to California.

It was a bittersweet session for many reasons (and not just because they made me wake up at sunrise to do it!). Not only are they clients, they are dear friends. We laugh together, our kids play together, I teach one of their daughters in Sunday school and we’ve enjoyed more backyard barbecues than I can count (not to mention Leann is an awesome Words With Friends opponent!). They are a dynamic family, blessed with three *beautiful* girls. They asked me to capture their family at the beach to remind them of this place they have grown to love and the community of people who have loved them back. Preserving memories is an important part of our military lifestyle…they keep us grounded and help us remember that home is wherever our family is (and was).

Mick and Leann, you will be missed dearly. It was a blessing to photograph your sweet family before you depart — you are the best end note to a year I could have hoped for. Wishing you fair winds and following seas.

xoxoxo, Stephanie

  • ingrid - Perfection. What an absolutely gorgeous family. Saying goodbye is always hard. The life of a Navy family is always an adventure and a lesson in inner strength.ReplyCancel

  • Paula Crosby - I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Mick and Leann since their first baby was a four week old black puppy. They played with the entire litter, before picking Buck. Since then, I have watched them grow and change, send one to kindergarten, but they remain the same people I knew carefully handling squirming commitments to the future. I’m ever so grateful to have been a part of their lives. I am now a Weeks Family Farm Follower. Amazing how lives overlap. I missed you after you moved to Virginia Beach, be we are never far apart. Be happy, stay safe and well, these pictures are beautiful. Thanks for sharing them.ReplyCancel

  • Holly Linquist - These photos are beautiful… brings out the fun of life with a wonderful family. Daniel and I had to laugh when we saw these… since we know the Williams and Stephanie from different places! Such is the Navy life… “it’s a small world after all!” Daniel was on cruise with Mick years and years ago.. and though we haven’t lived close to him and Leann, we have kept in touch and visited when we could. And we met Stephanie in Newport when she did a maternity and newborn photo shoot of our daughter. Now with our second one on the way, we wish she was close again to take more beautiful photos for us. Thanks for sharing the wonderful Williams family and Stephanie’s wonderful talent! Love to all of you.
